Gunmen attack Niger community, kidnap ten, shoot one

Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped ten persons and shot one in Maijaki village in Birnin Maza/Tashibo ward of Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when the villagers were fast asleep.

It was gathered that the sporadic gunshots fired by the bandits woke the residents who scampered to different directions in which some sustained injuries, while one had a gunshot wound.

The victim was said to have been rushed to Lapai General Hospital for medical attention.

Recall armed bandits stormed Gulu area of Lapai LG on Monday, killing two persons and abducted 13 persons and shot one in the process.

A source from Maijaki village revealed that following the attack on Gulu area on Monday and on Maijaki village in the LG, there are high fears c urgently among residents of communities.

The source called for an urgent need for security presence in the area to restore calm and stability among the people.

However, DAILY POST reliably learnt that the bandits are at the moment occupying the Kpashimi Forest and from there they unleash attacks on communities in recent times in the area.

Meanwhile, efforts to get confirmation from the state police through the Public Relations Officer PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun failed at the time of filing this report.

Furthermore, efforts to reach Commissioner Internal Security and Humanitarian Services, Mr. Umar Bagna Umar were futile.
