Messi wins 2022 best playmaker award ahead of Modric, De Bruyne [Full list]

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has won the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) playmaker of the year award for the fifth time.

According to Marca, Messi won the IFFHS award after accumulating 170 points in the ranking process.

The Paris Saint-Germain scored 35 goals and registered 30 assists in the period under review.

The former Barcelona captain is ahead of the second position, Real Madrid’s Luka Modric, who is second with 115 points.

The likes of Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, and Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezman round off the top six.

Messi has won the award more than any other footballer – five times, with Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez next to him with four wins.

The 35-year-old recently won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with the Argentina national team.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has netted 12 goals and provided 14 assists in 19 matches across all competitions for PSG so far this season.
