It is commonly associated with East Asian cuisine and is particularly popular in China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. The dish is typically made with leftover rice to add a crispy texture and to avoid mushiness.
To prepare fried rice, you will need the following ingredients:
- 2 cups of cooked rice (preferably cold, leftover rice)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 cup of frozen peas and carrots
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2-3 tablespoons of soy sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions on How To Prepare Fried Rice:
- Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add vegetable oil, onion, and garlic and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent.
- Push the onion and garlic to the sides of the pan and add the beaten eggs to the center. Scramble the eggs until they are fully cooked.
- Add the frozen peas and carrots and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes.
- Add the cooked rice and stir-fry, breaking up any clumps, for 3-5 minutes or until the rice is hot.
- Add soy sauce, salt and pepper and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes or until everything is well combined.
- Serve the fried rice immediately.
Note: You can add other ingredients like meat, seafood or tofu as well, but make sure to cook them before adding them to the skillet or wok.
